Unai de Ugarte is crowned Canary Islands champion in the ILCA 4 class

The sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife occupied the top three positions on the podium

The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailing team had a more than outstanding performance this weekend at the Canary Islands ILCA 4 Championship – Naviera Armas Transmediterránea, occupying the top three positions on the podium in the U18 category and also taking the victory in the overall standings of the U16 male category.

Unai de Ugarte was crowned champion of the Canary Islands, accompanied on the podium by Guillermo Bravo de Laguna and Mateo Roa.

The Canary Islands ILCA 4 Championship was held from last Friday in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, being the third selective regatta for the Spanish ILCA 4 Championship to be held in Murcia from February 4 to 8. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife had the participation of Unai de Ugarte Herrera, Guillermo Bravo de Laguna Ferrer, Mateo Roa Nieves, and Adriana Bravo de Laguna Ferrer in the under-18 category, and V Williams Osipovs in the under-16 category.

The competition began on Friday and throughout the weekend the wind ranged in intensity from 8 to 14 knots. From the first day, the sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife positioned themselves in the top spots of the general classification.

Adriana Bravo de Laguna suffered the breakdown of her boat on Saturday, and on Sunday she sailed with a borrowed vessel, finishing the competition in fourth place overall in the women's under-18 category.

With three partial victories and three second places over the nine races contested, Unai de Ugarte was crowned Canary Islands champion of the ILCA 4 class in the under-18 male category. The second place on the podium went to Guillermo Bravo de Laguna, and Mateo Roa finished in third position. The sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife took the top three positions in the Canary Islands ILCA 4 Championship.

In the under-16 male category, Villiams Osipovs took the victory despite his youth. At just 13 years old, he was one of the biggest sensations of the weekend, achieving partial victory in the last two races on Sunday. The sailor from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife finished the competition in fifth position in the general standings.
