The town of Aarhus, in Denmark, hosted during the past week a new edition of the ILCA 4 Youth World Championship, a competition in which the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife had the participation of two sailors. Unai de Ugarte and Guillermo Bravo de Laguna, represented the club and Canarian sailing in the international competition and had a great performance throughout the week. Unai de Ugarte fought for the podium, finishing the ILCA 4 Youth World Championship in tenth position and being the best classified Spaniard.
Nearly 450 sailors from 52 different countries gathered in Aarhus to participate in the ILCA 4 Youth World Championship, of which 298 competed in the men's category. Unai de Ugarte and Guillermo Bravo de Laguna were the only representatives of Canarian sailing at the international event. An ILCA 4 Youth World Championship that included 5 qualifying races and six final races, completing a total of 11 out of the 12 scheduled races.
From the first day, Unai de Ugarte positioned himself among the best classified in the ILCA 4 Youth World Championship, achieving a partial victory, a second place, and a third place in the qualifying phase, results that allowed him to reach the fourth position in the general classification. For his part, Guillermo Bravo de Laguna had more difficulties in the first phase of the competition, but managed to access the gold fleet.
Guillermo Bravo de Laguna staged a great comeback in the first races of the gold fleet, which included the top 75 sailors, and reached the vicinity of the top ten classified. For his part, Unai de Ugarte suffered a disqualification in the first race of the last day, diminishing his chances of fighting for the podium.
Finally, Unai de Ugarte classified in tenth position in the ILCA 4 Youth World Championship and was the best classified Spaniard in the international event held in Denmark. And Guillermo Bravo de Laguna classified in 39th position in the general classification, a more than satisfactory result after the complicated start to the competition he had.
