The IES Yaiza Triathlon will get underway next April 10 with the incentive in this XXVII Edition of the recent achievement of the Viera y Clavijo Distinction, granted by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands and which recognizes the trajectory of IES Yaiza for its contribution to the promotion of sport, healthy habits and individual and collective work as a reference to achieve not only academic training but also the comprehensive training of students.
As is already customary in previous editions, students from all secondary schools in Lanzarote will participate in the event, both public and private or subsidized, the Zonzamas Integrated Vocational Training Center and the "Pancho Lasso" School of Art, with registration being completed by a large group of students from other islands, such as the Tenerife-based IES Ichasagua, from Los Cristianos, and the Fuerteventura-based IES La Oliva.
The graphic proposal by Jillian Diamante, a 3ºC ESO student from IES Yaiza, has finally been the winner from among almost forty participants for the commemorative poster of this XXVII edition, in which the author wanted to capture the increase in the demand for effort required by the different segments of the test, amply rewarded by the personal and collective satisfaction obtained.
The presentation of the current edition took place at the facilities of the educational center itself, and numerous authorities who attended the event participated in it, representing the different institutions that, together with IES Yaiza, are responsible for organizing this complex sporting event, such as Óscar Noda, Mayor of Yaiza, to whom we must thank his insistence on the presentation of the IES Yaiza candidacy for the Viera y Clavijo Distinctions, a fact to which Mr. Mayor downplays importance “regardless of whether I have been responsible for processing the candidacy, the true merit of this event is mainly due to the teaching staff and the students, and of course, to all the institutions that in one way or another have had something to do with its organization”.
Furthermore, Óscar Noda not only recognizes the importance of this event for his municipality but also, as a former student and participant, is aware of what it means for the educational community of this Center, “I know perfectly well, as a student I was, that this event represents a very special day, in which special bonds are generated with students from other centers, in addition to promoting sports among young people,” he added.

If the participation of the Yaiza City Council is of great importance, that of the Cabildo de Lanzarote is no less so, since this event could not be carried out without its invaluable effort. Juan Monzón, Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, attended this presentation as a representative of the first island institution and highlighted, very much above all, the greatness of this sports competition, “that it has become a benchmark throughout the Canary Islands is a source of great pride for Lanzarote, especially because for its celebration not only is the collaboration of many people needed but also the contribution of many island institutions, therefore, for the Cabildo, the competition is important, but what is truly significant is the sports practice of our young people not only at IES Yaiza but also among the rest of the students from other institutes.
Another of the personalities participating in this presentation was Ángel Lago, Sports Councilor of the Yaiza City Council, who highlighted the popularity indices that this Triathlon has acquired not only in the Canary Islands, “but it is talked about both on the peninsula and internationally, therefore we must thank the strenuous effort and work that is carried out, both on the day of the event and in the days or months prior.” For Lago, this popularity already acquired by the event “obliges the City Council to continue working along this line, as well as to further promote this Triathlon, given the great importance of tourism and sport in our municipality, to which we must also add the education of our young people.”
Carmen Pellón, Insular Director of Education of Lanzarote; Beatriz Vázquez, Councilor for Citizen Security and Civil Protection of the Yaiza City Council; Ascensión Toledo, Education Counselor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote; Silvia Santana, Education Councilor of the Yaiza City Council and Rosa Gallardo, Director of IES Yaiza also attended this new presentation of the poster for this XXVII Edition
If the participation of the Yaiza City Council, Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote, IES Yaiza, Insular Sports Service of the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote and Deportes Yaiza Municipio Activo as organizers is vital for this triathlon to go ahead year after year, the contribution of other entities, both public and private, is vital.
