The Tinajo Municipal Pavilion hosted a heartfelt and emotional event last Saturday, the Pablo Brieba Plata Memorial, as part of the II Los Dolores Tournament, organized by CD Baloncesto Tizziri Tinajo.
Two matches were held in the tournament, one Senior men's match between the local teams Tizziri Tinajo and Maramajo, and another women's match with local players. The sporting competition gave way to an emotional tribute to a figure closely linked to Tinajo and Lanzarote basketball, Pablo Brieba, who now has a very special place reserved for him at the Tinajo Municipal Pavilion.
The Tinajo team paid tribute to Pablo, in the company of his father, Carlos Brieba, by naming one of the pavilion's stands "Grada Pablo Brieba Plata" and also proceeded to officially retire the number 45 jersey, the number Pablo wore during his sporting career.
The Tizziri Tinajo Basketball Club thanks "the players who participated in the II Los Dolores Tournament and all the people who took part in the tribute to Pablo. Thanks to family, friends, and players who accompanied us on this beautiful day. From now on, our teammate Pablo Brieba will always accompany us with his jersey number and will do so from his stand."
Pablo Brieba, a player, coach, and much-loved figure within the Tizziri Tinajo club, lost his life at just 30 years old in August 2025 in the Los Charcones area, in Playa Blanca.
