The 'Los Charcos Windsurfing Club' wants to express its "strongest rejection" of the San Bartolomé City Council's works on the Playa Honda Urban Park, which have "completely eliminated" the parking lot of Guacimeta Beach throughout the summer, which is the main access of the municipality to access its beaches and sports practice on this coast.

In addition, with the execution of these works, most of the parking spaces on Guacimeta beach will be "permanently eliminated", which de facto eliminates this area of the coast for access by the marine sports population, since the new park "only creates new spaces behind the Playa Honda soccer field, next to the smelly airport treatment plant", which "do not meet the demand and greatly hinder sports", by forcing the material to be loaded an "average of five hundred meters" to be able to practice our hobby.

This action added to the "scarce availability" of parking in the streets near the Playa Honda avenue, "will strain the coexistence with the neighbors due to the elimination of more than one hundred parking spaces in Guacimeta." For us, Guacimeta is "a privileged area, with many benefits as it is a windy, but safe beach, and ideal for our sports and where, far from promoting sports and enjoyment of the beach by everyone, barriers and impediments are placed to practice sports and for nautical tourism to come."

The Playa Honda urban park consists of a work of "three million euros" financed by the European Regional Development Fund, within the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy 'Conurban Azul' of the Sustainable Growth Operational Program 2014-2020, but in reality it is a "attack on that strategy", as it manages to "limit sustainable growth, limiting the consolidated use of the coast to sun and beach, with a type of park that has never been successful in the Canary Islands."

Let us bear in mind that this work, designed from the Balearic Islands, "without taking into account our singularities", consists of a "park with paths and ponds", which could be "assimilated to the failed Maneje urban park", which has been "an example of a poorly planned urban park" and with "little citizen use for the money it cost, with abandoned and destroyed ponds, where there has been no water for years and only some paths with poorly maintained gardens remain."

"We ask that the works be stopped, at least in the part that affects the Guacimeta parking lot"

Therefore, from the 'Los Charcos Club' we ask that "the works be stopped, at least in the part that affects the Guacimeta parking lot and that the meaning of this work be rethought so that public money is not squandered", but above all that "they do not eliminate the parking that allows athletes who enjoy the wind to access the sea with their boards and sails or kites." For us, Guacimeta "was the last place left in Lanzarote with good access to the sea, easy to park, where many of us could also teach family and friends the practice of our sports, or simply practice it and enjoy the wind on an ideal beach, with other groups that enjoy the beach and the avenue." But with this action, "they are going to leave the beach only for residents and sunbathing."
