Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote fell by 25-21 in its visit to AtticGo BM Elche, in a match corresponding to matchday 25 of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola at the Esperanza Lag Pavilion. The Lanzarote team competed head to head during the first half, but ended up giving in in the second half against the greater local success.
The start of the match was marked by the initiative of the Elche team, although Zonzamas did not lose pace at any time. A lob from Paula Fernández established the three-all tie nearing the sixth minute, and shortly after Gleinys Reyes put the batateras ahead for the first time (3-4, min. 7).
The Zonzamas grew from the defense, showing great intensity that allowed them to stay ahead on the scoreboard. Daniela Jerónimo, with two consecutive goals, extended the lead (5-8, min. 18), forcing the local coach to call a timeout. Even a counterattack by Marie Louis made it 5-9, the maximum difference until that moment.
However, AtticGo BM Elche reacted quickly. Three consecutive goals from Lisa Oppedal restored equality to the scoreboard (8-9, min. 21), which led Juan
José Rivera to stop the match. From then on, the match entered a more contested phase, with constant exchanges and with Alicia Robles holding the team under the posts. The first half closed with 11-10 in favor of the home team.
After the break, Zonzamas felt the effort and the short rotation. Elche, fresher, began to open a gap taking advantage of the visitors' attacking errors (13-11, min. 35). Despite the defensive effort, with a very intense Nahomi Márquez at the back, the home team extended the lead to 16-13 in the 42nd minute.
The definitive blow arrived midway through the second half, when two consecutive counterattacks from Elche placed the score at 20-14 in the 48th minute, forcing Zonzamas to call a timeout. The visiting attack appeared stuck and without continuity, which allowed the Elche team to manage the advantage.
Zonzamas tried to react in the final stretch. Ingrid Roger broke the scoring drought (24-17, min. 54) and assumed offensive leadership in the final minutes, but the margin was already too wide. The match ended with the definitive 25-21.
The Lanzarote team will close the regular phase next weekend with a Canarian derby against Rocasa Gran Canaria in the Municipal Pavilion of San Bartolomé, in what will be the last commitment before the decisive stretch of the season.
