On March 14, Playa Honda was the setting for the thirteenth IES Playa Honda Adapted Olympics, an event that promotes adapted sports as a tool for inclusion, personal development, and overcoming challenges.
In this edition, the event included the participation of 25 educational centers with around 260 athletes, students between the ages of 3 and 21. During the Olympics, the participants competed in a variety of athletic events, grouped into different categories adapted to different ages and characteristics.
The categories were: Pequeolimpiadas, Miniolimpiadas, Olimpiadas Atléticas, and Diver Hyrox. The scheduled events included long-distance running, sprinting, long jump, agility circuit, precision throwing, distance throwing, and strength exercises by stations alternating with running sections for the older participants.
The Adapted Olympics are jointly organized by IES Blas Cabrera Felipe and IES Playa Honda, forming part of the 'We Jump Over Barriers' Project. This year, 33 monitors from the Higher Level Training Cycle in Physical Conditioning of IES Blas Cabrera and 55 volunteers from IES Playa Honda directed the athletic events. The athletes were accompanied by their teachers, educational assistants, and workshop assistants.
The XIII Adapted Olympics are supported by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, as well as the collaboration of the San Bartolomé City Council and the city councils of Arrecife, Teguise, Tías, and Yaiza, whose support is key to the development of the event.
