Next Saturday, September 6, the XIII EMMAX Crossing – Playa Honda will take place, one of the most consolidated open water competitions on the Canary Islands. Organized by the City Council of San Bartolomé and Tripasión Eventos, the event will once again bring together swimmers from different parts of the archipelago and the peninsula, in a day that combines sports, coexistence and the attractiveness of the coastline of the batatero municipality.
The sports program includes the 4,000 meter distance, designated as the premium stage of the Canary Islands Open Water Cup, which already has 95% of its places filled, confirming it as the most demanded of this edition. Added to this are the routes of 1,200, 800 and 400 meters, all scoring for the Lanzarote Open Water Cup. There will also be 100 and 50 meter tests for Pre-Benjamin, Participatory and Inclusive categories, along with the 3×200 meter mixed relay mode, which requires the presence of at least one swimmer in each team.
Among the novelties of this edition, the change of the traditional shirt for an exclusive backpack as a gift for the participants stands out, designed so that they can carry their swimming material and keep a practical and lasting memory of the event.
The event is supported by the Sports Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Lanzarote Tourism, the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Cajasiete, B15 Active and EMMAX Restaurant. Likewise, the inclusive modality will be supported by the “la Caixa” Foundation through CaixaBank, whose collaboration is key to guaranteeing that all participants enjoy the sport in equal conditions.
In the 2024 edition, Lanzarote native Naira Jaén won the 5 kilometer and 1,000 meter events, while Catalan Guillem Pujol Belmonte took victory in the Power modality, which rewards the sum of both distances. Naira's presence on the starting line of this new edition provides an extra incentive for both the public and her rivals.
Playa El Curita will once again be the setting for the finish line of the crossing, a route in clean and calm waters that offers athletes and companions a safe and attractive environment to experience a great sporting and social day.
Beyond the competitive level, the organization reinforces its commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment, applying measures to reduce waste and promoting environmental awareness among swimmers and the public.
Registration remains open through the official website, inviting athletes, clubs and fans to join an event that, year after year, is consolidated as an authentic open water swimming festival in Lanzarote.
