After the good preamble with the qualifying stage in the early afternoon, the Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Land Rally officially started with the departure ceremony for the 32 participating vehicles. The president of the Island Council of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, together with her Minister of Sports, Alfredo Mendoza, were in charge of giving the starting flag to all the drivers and teams, accompanied by several councilors from the island's town halls, by representatives of the sponsors such as the Cabrera Medina Group, of the FCA and FALP automobile federations, Benito Rodríguez and Miguel Angel Domínguez respectively; and from the Evesport organization, headed by José Víctor Rodríguez.
Both the president and the counselor showed their great "satisfaction for carrying out the test with all the permits in order", as has been the will of the Sports area and the organizers since the cancellation last April. "After the setback, it has taken a lot of work and effort to get to this day when the rally has become a reality again, with a departure ceremony full of symbolism that has recharged the passion of athletes and fans," they point out from the organization.
Before, an emotional tribute was paid to the figure of the pilot Paco Romero, with a minute of silence and the Skoda of Quintana-Mujica screen-printed in honor of the recently deceased colleague.
