The Spanish Outdoor Apnea Championship leaves three national records

The competition has been held, for the third consecutive time, in the heart of Puerto del Carmen

Spanish Outdoor Apnea Championship, held in Lanzarote

The waters of the Puerto del Carmen area have once again hosted, for the third consecutive time, the Spanish Outdoor Apnea Championship, the highest national competition for free diving, which leaves three national records.

This event - held during the 17th and 18th - brought together athletes from all over the national geography, noted for being able to reach the greatest depths with a single breath; and it was this event that determined the names that will defend the national team, which will compete in the World Championship in Kas (Turkey) next October.

80 meters deep, the first prize

Among the records obtained, the most outstanding was that of the Andalusian Luis Alberto Gutiérrez, who set a first national record on Saturday with 80 meters of depth in the constant weight with bifins category (CWT-BF).

The second national record was also enjoyed on the first day of competition, thanks to the representative of the Canary Islands federation, Laia Sopeña, capable of descending to 77 meters with her monofin in constant weight (CWT).

And the third national record was achieved by a representative of the Catalan team, Isabel Sánchez, who achieved 51 meters in the constant weight without fins category (CNF), a category in which no traction element is carried and cannot be helped by the guide rope.

In addition to the aforementioned performances, it should be noted that both Gutiérrez and Sánchez repeated at the top of the podium with a second triumph: the Andalusian in Free Immersion (FIM) and the Catalan in constant weight with bifins.

Also, we must add to the list of the championship the golds of Luis Fariña from Tenerife in CWT, Lorena Prieto from Galicia in FIM and another Catalan, Lluis Melus, in CNF, being, as for the team classification, the trophy for Catalonia.
