The tourist town of Playa Blanca hosted the first edition of the Timanfaya Triathlon on Saturday afternoon. A race that counts towards the FECANTRI Cup and had the participation of more than 150 triathletes. The predictions were fulfilled and the big favorites for the final triumph did not fail in the sprint category event. The Spanish Olympian Josemi Pérez, performing a race from less to more, and Patricia Díaz from Gran Canaria, were the absolute winners of the I Timanfaya Triathlon.
At two in the afternoon, the participants gathered on the beach of the town of Playa Blanca, with the women and the triathletes of the cadet category being the first to start. Next, the adapted athletes who competed in teams and the men did so. A good atmosphere that was breathed on the beach, being followed the test by hundreds of people who populated the avenue of the beach.
The swimming segment, of 750 kilometers, was decisive to establish the head of the women's category race. Delioma González (CN Reales) was the first to leave the water and Patricia Díaz (CT Titanes) and Tamar González (CT Titanes) from Lanzarote followed her at a short distance. Patricia Díaz took advantage of the 20 kilometers of the bicycle race to take the first place, a position that she would not abandon until crossing the finish line. Delioma González failed to withstand the strong pace of the Gran Canaria native and had to settle for second place. The podium was completed with the third place of the local Tamar González.
The time used by Patricia Díaz was 1 hour, 8 minutes and 49 seconds. She was three minutes ahead of the second classified, Delioma González (01:11:50) and almost five minutes ahead of Tamar González (01:13:39).
The competition in the men's category was very fast, with many triathletes fighting for the first place from the first meters of the swimming segment. Víctor Manuel González (Triatlón Pisuerga) from Valladolid was the first to complete the 750 meters of the swimming segment. Karim Balli (Playa Grande) and the Spanish Olympian Josemi Pérez (CT Hoces de Cuenca), occupied the first positions in this swimming segment.
The equality was maintained in the 20 kilometers of the bicycle race, forming a leading group that was commanded by Karim Balli. It was the triathlete from Playa Grande who made the transition between the bicycle and the foot race in first position. Víctor Manuel González fell from the first positions, giving the second place to Raúl Lecuona and third in the transition was Josemi Pérez.
The Spanish Olympian Josemi Pérez, who has been training in Lanzarote this week, made the foot race his strong point and set a strong pace to begin to leave rivals behind. Josemi Pérez from Cuenca crossed the finish line in first place and took the victory in the I Timanfaya Triathlon, making a time of 59 minutes and 53 seconds. Karim Balli (01:00:26), who led the race for a good part of it, had to settle for second place. And the third position of the podium was for Raúl Lecuona (01:00:27). The second and third classified entered the finish line together.
The I Timanfaya Triathlon had the participation of several adapted category triathletes, as was the case of Francesc Sola and Norberto Chávez. And several triathletes did the test in adapted mixed teams. A test open to all audiences and with which seeks the integration of all kinds of athletes, to whom the doors are opened to participate in the Timanfaya Triathlon.
