The Skiff Federation apologizes to Arrecife: "The suspension was issued in a climate of anger"

The Federation had announced this Wednesday the suspension of all its activity "due to the lack of economic support from the Arrecife City Council", but the City Council proved that the entity received 25,000 euros in 2023

After the statement issued by the Island Federation of Latin Sail Skiffs of Lanzarote in which the suspension of its activity and scheduled regattas was announced, due in part to the lack of financial aid and having to reimburse part of a subsidy received, the federative entity has apologized to the Arrecife City Council for what was expressed.

The president of the Island Federation of Latin Sail Skiffs of Lanzarote, Juan Pérez, assures that "we are common citizens who, altruistically, have assumed the responsibility of carrying out the Island Federation of Latin Sail Skiffs of Lanzarote." "Our only objective is to improve, guarantee transparency and protect this traditional sport," says the president and considers that "it is a fact that the previous Board of Directors received the aid and presented the corresponding justification, with incidents that were subject to requirements and that were not properly clarified."

The message released this Wednesday in which the suspension of all activity was announced, was issued "in a climate of anger and concern due to the lack of liquidity derived from the administrative situation of the 2023 subsidy, and we are aware that this was not the most appropriate way to act," they state.

The Board of Directors clarifies that "they will work as soon as possible with the Arrecife City Council to review the file, clarify the incidents and guarantee transparency." At the same time, they ask for "help, understanding and active collaboration from the City Council itself in the field of subsidies, so that we can solve this problem, face the existing debt and ensure the continuity of the federative activity."

The Island Federation of Latin Sail Skiffs of Lanzarote reiterates its public apologies to the Arrecife City Council and to all those involved for the statement in which the suspension of the regattas was announced.

"Our commitment is firm, the regattas will return sooner than we think, we will continue to defend Latin sailing as a traditional sport and cultural heritage of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. We ask athletes, clubs and fans for their support and understanding in this renewal process, with the confidence that together we will overcome this stage," they conclude.
