The bay of Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosted the celebration of the Canary Islands Cup of ILCA 4 – Baleària Canarias Trophy this past weekend, a competition that was attended by five sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. The Lanzarote athletes dominated the second qualifier of the ILCA 4 class, and up to three members of the club reached the top of the podium. Unai de Ugarte and Adriana Bravo de Laguna were proclaimed champions of the Canary Islands Cup in the under-18 category, and Fayna Tavío did so in the under-16 female category.

The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailing team that participated this weekend in the Canary Islands Cup of ILCA 4 was made up of Mateo Roa, Adriana Bravo de Laguna, Pablo Eusebio Fontes, Unai de Ugarte, and Fayna Tavío. On Saturday, the wind blew from the northeast with an intensity of 15 to 20 knots, and on Sunday, the wind was from the east-northeast with an average intensity of 18 knots.

Just as happened a few weeks ago in the event held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Unai de Ugarte was the great dominator. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailor achieved victory in four of the six races disputed, and in the remaining two, he was the second classified. A consistency that earned him the title of champion of the Canary Islands Cup of ILCA 4.

Outstanding performance by the two sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife who participated in the Canary Islands Cup of ILCA 4, being proclaimed champions of their respective categories. Adriana Bravo de Laguna reached the top of the podium in the under-18 category, marking her second victory of the season in the class qualifier. And Fayna Tavío took first place in the under-16 female category.

Mateo Roa, with the sponsorship of the Art, Culture, and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote, also had a great weekend of racing, placing fourth in the overall standings, with four third-place finishes and finishing four points off the podium. For his part, Pablo Eusebio Fontes finished the competition in eleventh place overall.

The Canary Islands ILCA 4 Cup has been the second qualifying event for the composition of the Royal Canary Sailing Federation team for the Spanish Cup, which will take place from October 29 to November 1 in the town of Pollença (Balearic Islands). The ranking is headed by Unai de Ugarte, and Mateo Roa and Adriana Bravo de Laguna have also secured their presence in the national competition.
