They cannot be used yet, but on Monday morning the mayor of Arrecife, María Isabel Déniz de León, and the Councilor for Sports, Luis Morales, visited the almost finished sports facilities of the Arrecife Municipal Sports Park in the Altavista neighborhood. The vice president of the first Institution, Mario Pérez, and the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo, Luis Arráez, also attended the open day, held this Monday, May 21.
This day aims to inform the residents of the capital about the services offered, in addition to formalizing the pre-registrations of those interested, who have the entire week, until May 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to fill out the applications and learn about the services they will be able to access from July 1. During the first day, more than 250 people pre-registered in facilities that have space for 5,000 users.
The facilities, which have involved an investment of around 6,000,000 euros, have a covered and heated pool with two pools of water (one of 364.6 square meters for swimming; and another for teaching, recreation and therapy of 107.32 square meters) and a thermal area with saunas, steam baths and a hydromassage tub. In addition, two tennis courts and two paddle courts, along with a climbing wall, a soccer field, gyms and cafeterias complete the sports facilities that will also have a place reserved for books with a library.
In the new Municipal Sports Park, activities such as Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga and ballroom dancing will be taught in various conditioned rooms.
The protests
The residents of Morro Angelito took advantage of the visit of the mayor of Arrecife and the media to express, once again, their protests against the General Urban Plan of the capital. With banners where you could read: "No to the General Plan" and "The mayor betrays the residents", a group of 40 people starred, during the open day of the Arrecife Municipal Sports Park, a demonstration, since "they do not trust" the resolution reached in the plenary session of May 6 where the modification of the partial plan of the Morro Angelito neighborhood was approved.
