Gran Canaria hosted a new edition of the Autumn Swimming Open this weekend, where the Club Natación Nadamas from Costa Teguise once again demonstrated its high competitive level. The Lanzarote team took third place in the men's team category and fourth place in the women's team category, in addition to winning 8 medals (4 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes) and registering three new Canary Islands records by Diego Vázquez, a promising young man of only 14 years old.

CN Nadamas attended the event with a prominent representation consisting of Nora Delgado, Catalina Rodríguez, Natalia Sasu, Naira Pérez, Naira Jaén, Juan José Ramos, Diego Vázquez, Erik Suárez, Nicolás Padrón, Herminio Alperi, Matías Padrón and Besay Delgado, accompanied by their coaches Nacho Villalba and Ricardo Senra.

The great protagonist of the championship was Diego Vázquez, who set three Canary Islands records in a 25-meter pool in the 14-year-old category. The swimmer from Lanzarote, two-time champion of Spain, lowered the 50-meter freestyle mark to 24"81, surpassing Saúl Quijada's record (2024) by three hundredths. In the 100-meter freestyle, Vázquez stopped the clock at 54"00, improving Hugo León's record (2023) by more than a second. However, his most celebrated performance came in the 200-meter freestyle, where with a time of 1'58"37 he broke a historic record that dated back 37 years, established by Frederik Hviid, former Olympic swimmer and European champion.

For his part, Herminio Alperi was recognized as the best swimmer of the championship by AQUA score, also adding three gold medals in the 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyle events.

In the women's category, Naira Jaén completed an outstanding performance with a gold medal in the 1500-meter freestyle, silvers in the 400 and 800-meter freestyle, and bronzes in the 400-meter individual medley and 200-meter freestyle, establishing herself as one of the most consistent swimmers in the competition.

The Lanzarote team, which continues its preparation for the upcoming national competitions, also achieved national minimums in various events, thus expanding the number of swimmers with options to represent the Canary Islands and Lanzarote in the upcoming Spanish championships.

Coaches Nacho Villalba and Ricardo Senra gave a very positive assessment of the team's performance, highlighting "the technical progress, the competitive mentality, and the commitment of the entire group."
