The Marlines canoeing club was proclaimed champion of the 1st Canary Islands Sea Kayak Cup. It was held on Saturday, May 15 at Playa de las Canteras in Gran Canaria, Club Victoria together with the Canary Islands Canoeing Federation organized this championship that attracted about 200 paddlers and 6 Canary Islands clubs. Despite the harsh adverse conditions of wind and waves, the Cup could be held without any mishap.

The Marlines attended the event with a team made up of 80 canoeists of all categories, from pre-beginners to veterans, being the team with the most representation in the Cup together with the Club Amigos del Piragüismo de Gran Canaria who competed with about 60 participants.

The paddlers from Lanzarote managed to reach 28 medals, 7 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze. The podiums began to arrive from the first start in which Inés Hernández achieved a 2nd place in Sub23 Women and Gabriel Cabrera 3rd place in Sub23 men. Later Óscar Asensio was in 1st place in Youth Men together with Airam Pacheco in 2nd place in Youth Men. In veterans Anna Langner and Thomas Goosen both won a 3rd place in their respective categories. In Popular +18 Men, Ramses Luzardo and Jose Luis Gonzalez took 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

The youngest Marlines also demonstrated their expertise, achieving many medals and points for the Club. In pre-beginner men they achieved a 1st place for Erik Nogueira and a 2nd place for Benjamín Locreille. In beginner women, Berta González obtained 1st place and Attenery Acosta 3rd place and also Tobías Locrielle 1st place in beginner men.

In Alevín Women the girls of the Marlines swept, with Amaia Barrachina first, Ingrid Barrachina second and Olatz Labarga third. In Alevín men Himar de Ganzo climbed to the podium with a 2nd place.

Very good results were also obtained in the children's A and B categories in both women and men, where a good part of the representation of the Lanzarote team is found. In children's B, Ariadne Gimenez was nominated with a 2nd place and Joanna Olszewska with 3rd place in women, and in men Andor Dévora and Pedro Martín with 2nd and 3rd place respectively. In children's A, Andrea Betancor was in 3rd place in women and Eloy climbed to the top of the podium with a 1st place in men.

In cadet men Daniel Robayna reached the silver medal, having been in 2nd place. And in the last regatta of the Cup, the popular Sub18 men competed, where Álvaro García obtained 1st place, Juan Fernando Osorio 2nd and Daryl Lezcano 3rd.
All these podiums together with the good results of the Marlines team, placed the Club as Champion of the I Canary Islands Sea Kayak Cup with 1182 points. In second place was the Club Amigos del Piragüismo with 1023 points and in third place the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria with 496 points.

In two weeks the paddlers from Lanzarote will head to Fuerteventura to compete in the II Canary Islands Cup, the last event before the Club together with the Canary Islands Canoeing Federation face the organization of the Sea Kayak World Championship in Lanzarote which will be in July.
