Fourteen medals in total, five gold, four silver and five bronze, were on display this Tuesday on the Mayor's office table in the Arrecife City Council. An achievement carried out by four agents of the Local Police in the VII European Police and Fire Games held from September 21 to 29 in Algeciras, José Miguel Ortega González (Karate), Jeremías Lasso Quintero (Karate/Crossfit), Rafael Méndez Betancort (Kickboxing/Karate) and José Antonio Lasso Tabares (Karate).
The mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, congratulated them together with the Councilor for Local Police, David Duarte. Both were "proud" of agents "who demonstrate their motivation and good physical condition on a daily basis."
The police officers thanked the Mayor's Office for the reception and stated that "it is a pride to take the name of Arrecife to this type of competition that demonstrates the desire to continue working for the city."
In the competition, Arrecife managed to position itself as the first medal winner in karate with 11 medals in that category alone, a record compared to other years, according to the City Council. "We had never managed to bring fourteen medals, and we have been participating for several years," commented José Antonio Lasso.
During the nine days of the Games, in which 27 countries participated this year, the participants competed in more than 60 modalities.
