The Lanzarote native Carolina Martín has been proclaimed runner-up in the Spanish Aerobatic Flight Championship (CEVA) 2026 in the Intermediate category after a brilliant performance in the National and International Open, while Cástor Fantoba has made history by conquering the title in the Unlimited and Freestyle categories, achieving a spectacular double.
Held in Torrenueva (Ciudad Real), the championship brought together 30 pilots from 9 countries, consolidating the growth and international projection of an event organized by the Club Acrobático Central (CAC) and the Royal Spanish Aeronautical Federation (RFAE).
After two days of competition at the highest level, La Caminera Club de Campo airfield was the venue for an edition that raised the sporting level of the championship a notch higher, with the participation of 30 pilots from 9 nationalities and a total of 81 official flights. The great performance of the championship was signed by Cástor Fantoba, who conquered the titles in the two highest categories: Unlimited and Freestyle.
The equality in the different categories and the high technical level maintained the uncertainty for the titles until the last flights of the championship.
The different Classic categories offered a very high level of precision, while the Freestyle finals provided the finishing touch to the championship with flights of great technical difficulty and creativity, becoming once again the most anticipated moment for the public.
Cástor Fantoba, Spanish Champion of Unlimited and Freestyle 2026 said that "aerobatic flight is continuous learning; you never stop perfecting a maneuver, a sequence, or a way of flying. I am very proud to have achieved this double in such a close and demanding championship. We knew the level was going to be very high and, with rivals of such caliber, every point counts. It is very positive for everyone that the CEVA brings together international pilots of this caliber, because it forces us to keep training, improving, and learning in every competition".
The CEVA 2026 also featured outstanding female participation. American Ekaterina Volkova was proclaimed champion of the Spanish Open in the Unlimited category, confirming the high international level of the competition. For her part, Spanish pilot Carolina Martín, a scholarship holder from MyD, achieved a meritorious performance in the Intermediate category, consolidating her progress among the main national promises of aerobatic flight.
The CEVA, last major event before the World Championship
The CEVA 2026 also served as preparation for the National Aerobatic Flight Team (ENVA), which will face the World Championship this summer in Mason City (Iowa, United States). The presence of the national team turned the event into a top-level rehearsal before the major international competition.
The championship featured a jury of international prestige, led by Steve Green and composed of Guy Auger, Nikolai Nikityuk, Eladi Lozano, and Gonzalo Rodríguez, all judges with vast experience in the discipline's main international competitions. Their work was key to ensuring technical rigor and the exemplary development of the competition, which was carried out with the highest standards of quality and precision.
Success in following the competition through official channels
In addition to the public present at La Caminera Club de Campo, thousands of fans followed the championship through the official broadcast, with cockpit footage, aerial shots, real-time rankings, and interviews with the protagonists. A format that allows the viewer to experience all the technical complexity and spectacularity of a discipline where every turn, every axis, and every second are decisive.
