The young sailor from Lanzarote, Alejandro Bethencourt, returned home this Sunday, after having experienced what has possibly been the most exciting and vibrant summer of his sporting life. Friends, family, sailors and members of his club, the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, came to meet him at Guacimeta airport to congratulate him on his successes.
Alejandro Bethencourt attended the Laser 4.7 European Championship in Moss (Norway), where he managed to win the top title. Without time to return home, he moved to Karatsu (Japan), where the World Championship of the category awaited him, which he attended full of hope, concluding in twelfth position.
The lack of wind greatly diminished the possibilities of the Lanzarote native, who even so managed to mark the best time in the fourth and ninth regattas, always remaining among the elite sailors of the World Championship.
After traveling halfway around the world, Alejandro Bethencourt arrived in Lanzarote on Sunday afternoon, tired from the trip from the "empire of the rising sun", but happy for the merits achieved.
After the reception at the airport, the young man traveled to the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, where they were also waiting for him with welcome banners.
Without a doubt, this has been one of the most complete seasons for the island sailor, who has not stopped setting champion times in all the events where he has appeared, positioning himself as one of the athletes of the future, not only on the island, but also internationally.
