Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen has achieved its first victory of the season (19-24) this Saturday, on court B of the CDM Siglo XXI, during their visit to Schar Colores Zaragoza in a match corresponding to the third round of the División de Honor Oro.
The match was extremely even until the last third of the game, at which point the "tiñoseras" stepped on the gas to put the first points on their scoreboard in this league. The "aurinegras" started well on the Zaragoza court, obtaining a small advantage in the first few minutes. In the last ten minutes of the first half, the home team managed to equalize the score and go into halftime almost tied (10-11).
The momentum would change minimally as Zaragoza came out more energized after the break, even taking the lead for the first time in the match, but the "tiñoseras" held on and, as the minutes passed, managed to increase their lead to arrive at the final ten minutes of the game with a two-goal advantage. Just as it happened to them in Lanzarote the previous week, Zaragoza struggled in the final minutes and the points traveled back to the island of Lanzarote.
The improvement in defense is noteworthy, with greater concentration and assertiveness compared to the previous match in which there had been hardly any exclusions. With the improvement in defense, Puerto del Carmen exploits its characteristic strength, which is the counterattack, taking the game to more familiar and, above all, more comfortable territory.
Bea Masseu became the top scorer of the match with eleven goals, well accompanied in the offensive facet by Brenda Torres's four goals. Among the home team, Laura Rodríguez's four goals stood out.
For the "tiñosero" coach, Jesús Casanova, "despite having a terrible trip once again because leaving the airport was an impressive traffic jam, we arrived just in time to get the car and reach the court. The team came out energized this time, motivated, we started leading the score. Then Zaragoza had a good spell taking advantage of our turnovers, but well, little by little, we regained the initiative on the scoreboard based on a more than good defense, good goalkeeping, and with the counterattacks that characterize us, we opened a small gap that in the end resulted in those two points we bring home," concludes the "aurinegro" coach.
First victory for Puerto del Carmen which next Saturday, October 17, at 18:00 hours, receives the visit of Balonmano Zuazo Femenino, a team that this week won at home against San José Obrero (34-27) and that still does not know defeat after three matchdays played.
