Lionel Morales was proclaimed this weekend Champion of Spain in the Spanish Paralympic Triathlon Championship held in Águilas, in Murcia.

The Lanzarote paratriathlete, Canarian representative under the name of CD Natación Nadamas Las Marinas, was the winner in Murcian lands in the PTS2 category with a time of 01:13:03, followed, in second place, by the Balearic Javier Vergara Rubio (01:21:59), a teammate who was fourth last week in the Portugal event of the world championship. In third place was the Basque Oskar Garro Antxia (01:34:12).

Lionel Morales achieved the best time in the three partials of the Murcian event, in the water (00:12:21), on the bicycle (00:31:11) as well as in the race (00:22:41), being behind in time in the first of the transitions.

After the event held in Águilas, Lionel Morales explained that "this new title of champion of Spain in Águilas 2025 has a very special meaning for me and my family because, another September 13, such a day as today eleven years ago, in 2014, I was in the hospital in a coma due to a heat stroke right here, in Águilas". "Eight days in a coma and almost a month in the hospital. And look at all the time that has passed and all that I have managed to achieve in these years for not throwing in the towel", concludes, full of pride and joy, the Lanzarote paratriathlete Lionel Morales who is having a spectacular end to the season and is already with his sights set, from Lanzarote, on the last event of the World Championship in Alanya, Turkey.
