The optimist class experienced last week an event with the celebration of the regatta Gran Día de la Vela de Bufete Frau, a competition organized by the Club Nautic S´Arenal de Mallorca and in which the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation selected twelve sailors to participate in the event. Among those selected was Fayna Tavío, a young sailor from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, who had a great experience throughout the different days of competition.

The selected team, led by Sergio de Armas, technical coordinator of light sailing of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation, and the coach Patricia Reino, was formed from the ranking of the current season plus the result of the Canarian Championship and the Trophy of the Association of Nautical Clubs. Those sailors who have participated in national events or are about to leave the class soon due to age or weight were not included.

Fayna Tavío Gutiérrez was one of the sailors selected to participate in the regatta Gran Día de la Vela de Bufete Frau, with the young woman from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife participating in the under 16 category. Being part of the Canarian optimist selection is the reward for the work and sacrifice made over the last few months, and being able to continue improving in the optimist class.

The more than 200 participating sailors were divided into three groups of regattas in the first two days of competition, in which a total of five races were held. In the red group, Fayna Tavío fought to be among the first classified and a ninth position was her most outstanding result in the fourth race. The tests in the second part of the competition were more complicated, with the sailor from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife classified in 113th place.
