The Yaiza City Council, through the Municipal Sports Schools Program, has promoted training in martial arts in the south of Lanzarote in such a way that young practitioners from the Kenpo Karate Lanzarote academy "are already competing outside the island with very good performances and results, such as those achieved in the international tournament held last weekend in Fuerteventura."
The II Winter Warrior Martial Arts, held in Costa de Antigua, brought together dozens of athletes from Denmark, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in the second international Winter Warrior Martial Arts meeting, where boys and girls from Playa Blanca rounded off a great performance in the modalities of kata (sequence of movements), point fighting, team katas and weapon forms. Among the triumphs achieved, two gold medals in individual kata and kata with weapons, gold in forms and championship and runner-up in point fighting stand out.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, congratulates "the boys and girls for their wonderful performance" and encourages more young people "to start practicing this discipline through the Kenpo Lanzarote academy, led by coach Wellington Castro, the architect, together with his work team, of the reception of this sport in our municipality, highlighting, of course, the support offered by mothers, fathers and families, because family support is decisive at an early age."
The Councilor for Sports of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, underlines "the evolution of kenpo in Playa Blanca, a silent and productive work that in a short time has had the capacity to offer sports results, although above them is the contribution that sport makes to the integration, coexistence and integral development of our boys and girls". Wellington Castro, the most visible face of the school, has the invaluable support of Erika Castro and Ermitas de la Cruz in training.
Kenpo Karate Lanzarote has been working on the training of athletes of different ages and last November, to confirm the implementation of this sport in the south of the island, it organized with the City Council the 1st Kenpo Playa Blanca Tournament with the participation of 80 boys and girls.
