The Federico Pescamar Titerroy won the first race of the day, while the Playa Dorada did the same in the second, in a Sunday event marked by changes in wind intensity and equality between several boats.

The 5-Meter Latin Sailboat League regatta offered two races, with different alternatives at the front and tactical decisions that were decisive in establishing the final positions. The wind, which began blowing from the north with an intensity of 12 knots and increased during the first race, played a relevant role again in the second, with continuous variations in intensity that conditioned the performance of the boats.

In the first race, belonging to the eighth regatta of the 5-meter sailboat league calendar in Lanzarote, the Graciplus, skippered by Nete Armas, soon found the path to the lead, although the characteristics of its sail, smaller than that of other boats, kept the fight for the top positions open. Especially in the downwind leg, the Playa Dorada of Aythami Quintana, the Federico Pescamar Titerroy of Santiago González, the Biosfera Express of Marcos Enrique Rodríguez, and the Romerito of David Martín joined the fight for victory, staging a race with alternatives and close differences between the main contenders.

Finally, the Federico Pescamar Titerroy crossed the finish line first, ahead of the Graciplus and the Playa Dorada, who completed the podium of the first race. The fourth position was also decided in a struggle between the Romerito and the Jameos del Agua of Alfredo Morales, with the former managing to finish ahead of their rival.

Playa Dorada wins the second race

The second race, the ninth of the calendar, brought together the Playa Dorada, the Federico Pescamar Titerroy, the Biosfera Express, and the Graciplus in the fight for the front positions from the outset. The alternatives between the boats marked a race in which the meteorological conditions acquired special relevance.

The wind presented continuous increases and decreases in intensity, so the choice of sails and the effect of drafting between boats became decisive factors in taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the race course.

The Playa Dorada gained ground until consolidating in first position, opening a gap with the Biosfera Express, which was sailing in second place, and the Graciplus, initially in third position.

When the lead of the ninth race seemed set, the Federico Pescamar Titerroy staged one of the decisive maneuvers of the day. The boat moved to the right of the race course and managed to take better advantage of the wind conditions. Its progress was rewarded at the finish line, where it managed to overtake the Graciplus and secure third position. Ahead, the Playa Dorada confirmed its victory, followed by the Biosfera Express, in a second race that once again demonstrated the importance of reading the wind and tactical decisions in Latin sailing.

Playa Blanca at the front of the standings

With the results of this Sunday's event, the general classification will reach its final chapter with Virginia Morales' Playa Blanca at the front, with 14 points, despite finishing this day in sixth and ninth position in the two races held.

Behind, the Playa Dorada and the Romerito share second position with 26 points, while the Jameos del Agua occupies fourth place, with 27 points. The closeness between these boats keeps the fight for the top positions in the standings open.

The competition will be decided next Saturday, on a final day in which the crews will face the decisive race of the season. With the current differences between several of the main contenders, each position could be decisive in establishing the final classification of the 5-Meter Latin Sailing Boat League.
