The City Council and the San Bartolomé Football Club are committed to equality, bullying and LGTBIfobia

This is the 'Respect Always Wins' project, in which associations such as Lánzate, Lanzaentiende, Chrysallis, Ademáas, the San Bartolomé Football Club, the Inter de Playa Honda Football Club and the Zonzamas Handball Club have participated.

The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Friday the third phase of 'Respect Always Wins', a project through which the City Council works, together with the sports schools and educational centers of the municipality, on issues such as equality, bullying and LGTBIfobia, relying on the positive values ​​of sport to promote coexistence and respect among young people.

The associations that work on the island for the rights of the LGTBI+ community that have collaborated in the project participated in the event: Lánzate, Lanzaentiende and Chrysallis. In addition, the directors of the sports clubs of the municipality that have participated were present: the San Bartolomé football club, the Inter de Playa Honda football club and the Zonzamas Handball Club.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, pointed out that with this project "we have managed to involve the sports and educational fabric to instill positive values ​​in the youth of the municipality. We want San Bartolomé to be a municipality free of any type of discrimination and violence to be and love in freedom."

In addition, he acknowledged that, like the previous campaigns, "this third phase is also made up of an awareness guide against homophobia in sports and a spot starring the players of the San Bartolomé Football Club, whom I thank for their participation since they were asked to be standard bearers of this cause so necessary in a sport like football."

For her part, the Councilor for Equality and Youth, Mónica de León, indicated that "all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, have the right to participate in sports without discrimination. It is essential that sports environments guarantee the inclusion of LGTBIQ+ people, for which this guide's main objective is to facilitate the inclusion and equitable participation of everyone in sports."

In this regard, the Councilor for Sports, Alexis Hernández, took advantage of this last phase of the campaign to thank the schools and institutes, as well as the associative fabric of the island, "the invaluable collaboration they have had to get the message to all the young people of the municipality through the delivery of QR codes so that they can access the digital guides." In this sense, he added that "an information panel with access to the three awareness guides of this project is already installed in all sports spaces so that all users can consult them."
