The Minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, recently received the three Lanzarote champions with the Canary Islands' U12 women's team in the Spanish Autonomous Teams Championship (CESA).
Monzón personally congratulated Carlota Noda and Nira Duque, players from CB Tahíche, and Ainhoa Martín, who plays for CB San José Obrero. "They reflect the effort and the future of island handball, as they are a clear example of the great level we have in Lanzarote," the councilor pointed out.
The women from Lanzarote won the title after defeating the Catalan team, hosts of the tournament, by 20-27, following a magnificent competition that took place between January 3rd and 8th.
Juan Monzón wished them the best of luck for their upcoming challenges, both in the Lanzarote teams and in possible call-ups to the regional team. "I am convinced that grassroots island handball is at an incredible moment, not only because of the victory of the three U13 teams, but because a total of 30 Lanzaroteans, as well as five coaches from the island, participated in this tournament in Catalonia," he concluded.
