Puerto del Carmen will host the Ocean Lava triathlon and the Ironman, two important sporting events for October 2024 and May 2025.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, met this week at the town hall headquarters with part of their work team to coordinate the celebration of important Lanzarote sporting events that also take place in the municipality.
Thus, taking into account that the Cycling Tour of Lanzarote will take place on the island on September 28 and 29 and that it includes several roads in the municipality of Tías such as the Hoya Limpia road, the heads of both administrations agreed to start the improvement works on this road on September 30.
As will be recalled, the Hoya Limpia road, which connects the towns of Tías and Puerto del Carmen, is awaiting the execution of a water channeling and resurfacing project to improve safety in the area. This 3.5-kilometer road is expected to be incorporated into the island's network of cycle routes.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Councilor for Sports of the Tías City Council, Ismael Cruz, they also discussed the security and organization elements necessary for the celebration of other sporting events based in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen, such as the Ocean Lava triathlon scheduled for October 26 and the Ironman, which will take place on May 17.
