The Auria Badminton Club wins two Canary Islands Championship titles in the absolute category

Miguel Barbado in the individual category and Laura Solis in women's doubles, win the gold medal

The Auria Badminton Club traveled to the island of Tenerife this weekend and participated with nine players in the Absolute Badminton Championship of the Canary Islands, a competition organized by the CB Universitario and the Canary Badminton Federation. The club from Lanzarote returns with great results, after winning two gold medals, two silvers, and a bronze. Miguel Barbado in the Absolute A category and Laura Solis in women's doubles with Lucía Socas, reached the top of the podium.

In the Absolute A category, Miguel Barbado reached the quarterfinals by defeating Darío Perera (21-18, 21-16), and advanced to the final by achieving victory against Albert Ivars (21-11, 17-21, 21-15) and Alejandro Antonio Flores (21-11, 21-19, 21-4). And in the fight for the gold medal, the Auria Bádminton Club player defeated José Molares (21-16, 25-23), a player from Tenzul El Rosario, to be proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands.

The second gold medal in the Canary Islands Absolute Championship came from Laura Solis, who partnered with Lucía Socas, a player from CD Los Hinojeros Granadilla, in the women's doubles. In the group stage, they won both matches against Sandra Flores – Elisa Rostro (21-11, 21-19) and Maren Brauner – María Morales (21-15, 21-11). In the grand final, Laura Solis and Lucía Socas, in three sets, defeated Aitana Martínez – Laura Martínez (16-21, 21-19, 21-12), becoming the new champions of the Canary Islands.

Miguel Barbado, along with his brother Martín Barbado, climbed to the second step of the podium in the men's doubles Absolute A. The players from the Auria Badminton Club qualified for the semifinals by defeating Dario Perera – Pablo Pineda (21-19, 21-13) and Pablo Pérez – Joonas Robert (21-10, 21-15). In the penultimate round, they prevailed over Andrés Carrera – José Molares (21-16, 13-21, 21-17). And they fell in the final against Sergio Alonso – Marcos Fajardo (17-21, 21-10, 14-21), finally achieving the silver medal.

In the Women's Absolute B category, Ariadna Moreno took the silver medal, completing a great competition on the island of Tenerife. In the group stage, she achieved victory against Marta Rodríguez (21-19, 21-19) and fell to Yaiza Torres (21-15, 12-21, 14-21), forcing a three-way tie in which she was favored due to a greater number of sets in her favor. In the final, she was defeated by Irene Méndez (13-21, 9-21).

Zeneida Ortiz took the bronze medal in the Women's Absolute A category. In the group stage, in which the top-ranked players advanced to the grand final, the Auria Badminton Club player began the competition with a victory against Nekal Padrón (21-12, 21-10) and continued by defeating Alicia Martínez (21-17, 21-11), a player who was the number two seed in the tournament. She was defeated by Ana Calero (10-21, 18-21).

The Canary Islands Senior Badminton Championship was a qualifier for the Spanish National Team Championship, which will be held from December 12 to 14 in Rinconada, Seville. Miguel Barbado, with his gold medal in the Men's Senior A category, has guaranteed his presence in the national competition, which the male and female champions and runners-up automatically qualify for.

The Auria Badminton Club competed with nine players in the Absolute Canary Islands Championship, a competition held in Tenerife. The expedition was made up of Adrián Carabali, Ariadna Moreno, Zhi Tao Li, Alejandro Rijo, Martín Barbado, Laura Solis, Oliver Gausmann, Zeneida Ortiz, and Miguel Barbado. In addition, Miguel Barbado served as coach during the weekend, and sports psychologist Sofía Correa accompanied the expedition.
