The start of the RORC Transatlantic Race could not have been more exciting. You could enjoy a wonderful blue sky, with a temperature of 20 degrees and an average of 16 knots and the background of El Reducto beach, in Arrecife, where the fleet gathered after having prepared the crossing from the Calero Marinas marinas in Lanzarote, Puerto Calero and Marina Lanzarote.

At 11:00 a.m. the RORC committee, supported by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, gave the start to the fastest, the trimarans Argo, Maserati, PowerPlay and Ultim Emotion 2, which took just thirty minutes to mount the demarcation buoy located in Puerto Calero, in a very even competition. At 11:10, the departure of the rest of the fleet, with the spectacular maxi Comanche of Mitch Booth taking the lead and as a strong candidate to win the IMA championship trophy in 2022.

The start has been broadcast in streaming through the Facebook of Calero Marinas and with the comments of the famous regatista of the Vendee Globe, Pip Hare and has been followed by spectators from Australia, United States, Antigua or New Zealand.

José Juan Calero, CEO of Calero Marinas commented: "it is fantastic to see the fleet of the RORC Transatlantic Race leaving in these perfect conditions. I can say, on behalf of the entire Calero Marinas team and on behalf of all the promoters of this regatta, that we are proud of how this regatta has grown. It is a great satisfaction to see how the sailors enjoy. This is the eighth edition we have celebrated and I have to thank the RORC for the trust placed in Lanzarote to host this regatta and of course, thank the support of the International Maxi Association and the Yacht Club de France".

A spectacular fleet formed by about thirty boats, 27 nationalities and more than fifty sailors with a vast curriculum in the most prestigious competitions. Lanzarote this week has been the base of preparation for the crossing of the Atlantic of renowned figures such as Brain Thompson, Guillermo Altadil, Jens Dolmer or Alex Thomson among many others.

Although the weather for the start could not have been better, in the coming days the fleet faces adverse weather conditions, which will undoubtedly test the expertise of these intrepid sailors. The current records of the RORC Transatlantic Race are 10 days 5 hours and 47 minutes and 11 seconds for the monohulls, obtained by the My Song of Pier Luigi Loro in 2018 and 5 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes and 3 seconds for the trimarans in possession of the Phaedo 3, of Lloyd Thornburg, patronized by Brian Thompson in 2016.
