San José Obrero closes the first half of the season with a hard-fought victory against Culleredo

Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife wins 26-24 in Titerroy and finishes the year in promotion playoff spots in the First National Men's League

The Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife played the last match of the first round on Saturday afternoon, with the clear objective of achieving victory to close the year in the promotion playoff zone of the Primera Nacional Masculina. San José Obrero had a cold start to the match, and their play improved as the minutes went by, although they were never able to achieve a comfortable lead, ultimately winning 26 to 24. 

The match began with a Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife that made too many errors in ball circulation, and three consecutive turnovers in attack were exploited by Balonmano Culleredo to put the score at 0-3. Barely five minutes into the game, Alfredo Rodríguez called the first timeout of the match (1-4). 

The Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife gradually got into the game as the minutes went by, and after the halfway point of the first half, Rafa Robayna established the tie and shortly after Acoidán Martín put his team ahead for the first time. A phase of the match in which Saúl Rodríguez's saves in goal were decisive, even stopping a seven-meter throw.

In the final stretch of the first half, the home team managed to build a three-goal lead. The first half concluded with goals from Acoidán Martín and Adrián Juárez, setting the score at 11-8 at the end of the first 30 minutes of play at the Titerroy Municipal Pavilion.

Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife controlled the second half of the match, and above all, defended against the onslaughts of Balonmano Culleredo, who never gave up, putting up a strong fight against the home defenders. At the start of the second half, San José Obrero even had a four-goal lead, after two goals from Adrián Juárez (19-15).

A 0-3 run allowed Balonmano Culleredo to get within one goal and forced Alfredo Rodríguez to call another timeout (21-20). After instructions from the bench, the Galicians managed to tie the score, with a goal from Henrique Traba. Javi Aragón restored the lead to the home team, and with four minutes left in the match, Acoidán Martín scored to extend the advantage to three goals (24-21)

Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife defended against Balonmano Culleredo's attempts to reduce the lead, and the match ended with a score of 26 to 24. A victory that allows San José Obrero to finish the first half of the season as the second-place team. The competition for the Lanzarote team resumes on January 10, when they host Calvo Xiria at the Titerroy Municipal Pavilion.
