The thirty-first edition of the Travesía San Ginés 2026 was held on Saturday morning, an event organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and part of the activities for the San Ginés festivities taking place these days in the island's capital. The second open water swim of the season, counting towards the XII Lanzarote Open Water Swimming Cup, had the participation of more than 200 swimmers of all ages. Jacobo Garrido and Natalia Emilia Sasu were the overall winners of the XXXI Travesía San Ginés 2026.
The morning began with events for the younger participants, with distances adapted for each age group, which took place near the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. The first to enter the sea were the swimmers in the pre-benjamin category, completing a distance of 100 meters.
Next, the benjamin category event was held, with a distance of 400 meters. Alexander Delgado (Nadamas) and Laia Inés López (Nonadamos) were the winners of this category. The podium in the male category was completed by Nicolás Conceiro (Fuertri) in second place and Gabriel Martín (Nonadamos) in third place. In the female category, Ariadna Martín (Nadamas) and Sofía María Fuernica (Nonadamos) took the podium, finishing second and third, respectively.
The alevín category, with a distance of 800 meters, completed the events for the younger participants of the XXXI Travesía San Ginés. Aarón Mederos (Nonadamos) and Andrea Fraga (Nadamas) took the victory in the alevín category. Lois Chantada (Nadamas) and Albert Arben (Metropole) finished in second and third position in the male category. And in the female category, Nahia Escudero (Nadamas) and Chloe Vaz (Nadamas) completed the podium.
1,200 meters and start from La Rocar beach
The main event of the XXXI Travesía San Ginés 2026 took place from La Rocar beach to the access ramp of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, with almost 200 swimmers who started completing a distance of 1,200 meters. The event was closely watched from the entire Avenida Marítima of Arrecife, and one of the most special moments occurred with the swimmers passing through the arches of the Puente de las Bolas.
In the men's category, the victory went to Jacobo Garrido (Club Natació Terrassa) with a time of 14 minutes and 4 seconds. The Galician swimmer was also the winner of the adapted category and has a great international record, participating in the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and won the gold medal in the 400 meters freestyle in the S9 category at the London 2019 World Championships.
David Alcolado (CN Moscardó) was the second classified in the men's category with a time of 14:51 and Sammy Sutcliffe completed the podium in third position with a time of 15:04. And in the women's category, the victory went to Natalia Emilia Sasu (Nadamas) with a time of 16 minutes and 13 seconds. Lyli Gopar (16:39) and Nora Delgado (16:49) completed the women's podium, both swimmers being members of Nadamas
Award Ceremony
The XXXI San Ginés Crossing 2026 ended at noon on Saturday with the awarding of trophies and medals to the top three finishers in each of the age groups. The event took place in the Salón César Manrique of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and was attended by the club's president, Julio Romero. Representing the Arrecife City Council were councilors Mario González, Roberto Herbón and Davinia Déniz.
