Weekend of competition and training for the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife racing team, with an outstanding performance in the competition held in the town of Los Alcázares, in Murcia. The Optimist Pre-Spanish Cup was attended by four sailors from the club, a competition that has served to prepare for the Spanish Cup to be held this coming weekend on the same race course.

The Optimist Pre-Spanish Cup was held in Los Alcázares, with the Mar Menor becoming the race course in which a total of 75 sailors from all over Spain competed. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife team was made up of the four sailors who are part of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation's selection to compete in the Spanish Cup, with Pedro Medina, Unai de Ugarte and Mateo Roa in the under-16 category, and Julián Suárez in the under-13 category.

The conditions on the Mar Menor race course are totally different to those that the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailors are used to. The wave in this area of the Mediterranean is different and there are no currents. The sailors from Lanzarote adapted perfectly to these new conditions, with five qualifying races being held over the weekend.

Pedro Medina started the competition with a meritorious fifth place, scoring the victory in the second and third races, crossing the finish line as third in the fourth race and was able to discard the result obtained in the fifth race as the worst result. These results proclaimed Pedro Medina champion of the Optimist Pre-Spanish Cup, sharing the podium with Dani Capa (CN s'Estanyol) and Marta Mansito (RCN Gran Canaria).

As for the rest of the members of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Unai de Ugarte was classified in tenth position in the general classification and Mateo Roa occupied 29th place. For his part, the young Julián Suárez was placed 38th overall, and was the sixth classified in the under-13 category.

The Optimist Pre-Spanish Cup has served the sailors from Lanzarote as preparation for the Optimist Spanish Cup, a competition that takes place in Los Alcázares (Murcia) from May 15 to 18, and which will be attended by 155 sailors. The four members of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife are travelling to Murcia again this week.

Iberdrola Women's Sailing League

The Iberdrola Women's Sailing League held its third event of the season this weekend in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and was attended by a team from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. Laura Iza González, Andrea Stinga González and Eva Angélica Perdomo Curbelo were the three sailors from the club who competed in the third event of the season.

The race course of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria once again offered a splendid weekend for sailing, with north-westerly winds of 6 to 12 knots of intensity and flat seas. The competition was held on the “Ideal 18” boats and a total of 20 races were held over the days of competition.

The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife team occupied the seventh position in the general classification, in what has been their first participation of the season in the Iberdrola Women's Sailing League.
