The Island Sports Service celebrated this Saturday the XXVIII edition of the Swimming Crossing 'El Río', an event that unites the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
“The weather has accompanied us to enjoy an incredible edition in which nearly 500 competitors have participated,” said the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, who was present throughout the sports day and was in charge of giving the starting signal, together with the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque.
Punctual to the established, the swimmers started the crossing at 11:30 a.m. from the Bajo Risco area, and a little more than 34 minutes later the swimmer Juan Carlos Vallejo was the first to cross the finish line located on the beach of Caleta de Sebo. After him, Álvaro Cabrera Winter and Juan José de Armas Delgado completed the men's general podium.
Thirty-nine minutes and sixteen seconds was the time it took Natalia Sasu Bodarnea to reach the first position in the men's general classification to the beach of Caleta de Sebo. Subsequently, and in second and third position, the swimmers Lily Gopar Cordoves and Naira Pérez López arrived.
“This edition has been marked by the great level of the swimmers, who have demonstrated their power in this difficult sporting event,” said Juan Monzón, who thanked “the immense work of the Island Sports Service team to make this test possible, as well as the Security and Emergency Consortium, volunteers and State Security Forces for guaranteeing security at all times,” said the councilor, who presented the medals together with the mayor and the councilor of the Island Corporation, Domingo Cejas.
