The celebration of the XXIII edition of the Canarian Ball Tournament of Wood 'Abuelos Conejeros', which has taken place from last November to this Saturday, May 10 in Costa Teguise, has welcomed more than half a thousand participants. The event, organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Insular Sports Service, has had the collaboration of the City Councils of the Island.
In this sense, the deputy mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, in his speech during the closing of the tournament, reserved for people over 60 years, summoned more than half a thousand participants to the next edition that will take place in the vicinity of the Civic Center of the capital of Lanzarote, "in whose organization we are already working to make it shine at the great height that an event as endearing as this deserves," he said.
For his part, the councilor responsible for the Area of Seniors of Arrecife, Rosmen Quevedo, also expressed "the illusion" with which from the City Council "we face our condition as hosts of the next edition" of the tournament; and highlighted "the commitment, the good predisposition and the desire to have a good time" that have been shown by the members of the 24 teams from Arrecife participating -15 male and 9 female- of a total of 136 from the seven municipalities of the Island.
"Much more than a competition, the Abuelos Conejeros Tournament is a way to preserve our cultural roots while promoting activity and physical well-being among our elders, true examples of tradition, effort, teamwork and perseverance," said the councilor responsible for the Area of Seniors of Arrecife.
