The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Monday, June 2, in Bodegas La Florida, a new edition of the Lanzarote Wine Run, which will take place on June 14 and 15 in the surroundings of La Geria, recently recognized as a World Agricultural Heritage Site by the FAO.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort; the councilor of Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín; the CEO of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT), Ángel Vázquez; the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda; and the president of the Regulatory Council of the DOP Vinos de Lanzarote, Jorge Rodríguez.
"The Wine Run is much more than a race. It is an opportunity for the world to see how Lanzarote cares for, promotes and defends its territory. This international event merges sport, wine tourism and sustainability, projecting the identity values of La Geria," said Betancort.
For his part, the councilor of Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín, detailed the content of the test and announced the details of this year. He also stressed that "the Wine Run 2025 returns with the slogan 'Discover, Enjoy and Respect', putting at the center the sporting, educational and social character of the test." "Participating is becoming a guardian of the territory," he concluded.
During the presentation, the councilor of the CACT, Ángel Vázquez, stressed that "this is an event that has already been consolidated and that fits perfectly with the work strategy of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers."
Likewise, the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, emphasized the care of the landscape and the knowledge of it "through initiatives such as the Wine Run, to better appreciate the effort that went into the construction of the landscape and that generations of Lanzarote winegrowers continue to make for its conservation and production made wine."
Finally, the president of the Regulatory Council, Jorge Rodríguez, encouraged participation and pointed out that "this race is a great opportunity for both visitors and locals to taste our wines and understand the effort of those who cultivate this unique landscape with affection, effort and tradition."
Registrations open until June 8
The Lanzarote Wine Run 2025 already has more than 1,500 people registered in its different modalities; long race (23 km), short race (13 km) and walk (13 km), on Sunday, June 15. On Saturday 14, the Lanzarote Wine Run Kids will be held in the town of Uga. Registrations are open until June 8 on the official website.
The Joëlette modality is also included, aimed at people with reduced mobility, reinforcing the commitment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to social inclusion and compliance with the Diver seal, which certifies the accessibility of the test for another year.
All registered participants will receive a technical shirt with a design inspired by La Geria, a "finisher" medal, a runner's bag, timing, transportation, refreshments and tickets for the Wine Festival. For the absolute winners of the race, the prize will be their weight in D.O. Lanzarote wine.
The Wine Run is also a solidarity and ecological test. Through the "Save La Geria" project, funds are allocated to specific actions for cleaning and maintaining the landscape, with the participation of local volunteers and the NGO ADISLAN. In addition, the surplus sports equipment is donated to communities in Cape Verde, promoting the practice of sport in vulnerable contexts.
Wine Festival
On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June, the town of Uga will be the epicenter of the Wine Festival, where wine-growing tradition will be merged with local culture and leisure for all ages.
16 wineries from Lanzarote will participate, offering more than 90 wine references to taste and acquire. The experience will be accompanied by live music, workshops and children's activities.
In line with its environmental commitment, the Festival is once again committed to a 100% sustainable organization, eliminating single-use plastics, using reusable polycarbonate glasses and installing recycling points among other actions.
During the two days, the public will be able to enjoy the best local wine, traditional gastronomy, Canarian culture and a musical program with local artists and live performances, turning the surroundings of Uga into a great celebration of wine and the land.
