Arrecife will experience a great sporting, musical and recreational atmosphere this weekend in its parks, squares and the renovated pedestrian promenade next to El Reducto beach. The tenth edition of the Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife was presented this Tuesday morning at a press conference, where the surprises of this recovered great sporting event for the capital of Lanzarote have been revealed, in this year where the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife is being commemorated.
The Olympic athlete from Lanzarote and promoter of this sporting competition, José Carlos Hernández, stated this Tuesday that the event will take place between June 21 and 22 at the request of the Arrecife City Council, which has scheduled its celebration within the events for the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife, and with the new pedestrian area next to El Reducto beach as the setting for the race route, where the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, has promoted several actions for its modernization and citizen premiere on these dates, coinciding with San Juan's Day, which will be a holiday in Arrecife.
The start and finish line will be located in the Islas Canarias Park. As a novelty this year, there will be an inclusive race, another for very young children, and the new modality "Business Race", in addition to the usual distances of 5 and 10 kilometers. In addition, the more than one thousand participants will premiere, within the route of the race, the modernized pedestrian promenade next to El Reducto beach.
The Music Kiosk, in the José Ramírez Cerda Park, hosted the presentation of the Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife this Tuesday morning, with the participation of the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, the Vice President of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, the Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Sports, Eli Merino, the Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo, Juan Monzón, the CEO of Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, and the promoter of the event, the Olympic athlete from Lanzarote José Carlos Hernández.
The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, highlighted today at the presentation that "the city is betting, from the Government group that leads, to be a permanent venue for sporting, cultural and leisure events that position the city as a living, thriving and dynamic capital." The capital's first mayor stated before the media that "in this line - which has achieved good successes in other recent initiatives - this sporting race joins this coming weekend, together with musical concerts, dynamizing performances by Barrios de Parranda, which this Saturday moves to La Plazuela, and the events for San Juan, together on El Reducto beach, as a premiere of the great action of renovation of the urban image of the capital of Lanzarote in this area of the maritime front."
Yonathan de León is pleased that the urban remodeling of this section of the city will be premiered with this sporting event, in this year of commemoration for Arrecife. The mayor, with joy, indicated to the media that the citizens of Arrecife, and visitors, will now have a very intense summer putting Arrecife as the epicenter of the great events, of which he is proud as mayor. Héctor Fernández, CEO of Turismo Lanzarote, highlighted the support for this event in the line of achieving that Lanzarote unites tourism and sports as elements of tourist promotion.The organizer of the event, the Olympic athlete José Carlos Hernández, cleared today the bases of this tenth edition, which will have a new route through the capital of Lanzarote, starting from the Islas Canarias Park, touring the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, Calle Real, the area of the square of the church of San Ginés, the surroundings of the Charco de San Ginés, and return through the area towards the Avenida Fred Olsen, through the new pedestrian section, and crossing through the Theme Park. All in a distance of 5 km, which will reach 10 kilometers with a double circuit.
The start will be on Saturday, 22nd, at 9.30 pm. The previous Friday, will be the races for the little ones. This edition will be full of light and color, along with the Los Cumbacheros comparsa and several DJs who will liven up the night with rhythm and good music. On June 21st will take place the children's race, with several distances adapted for each age category and will not miss the great crawling race, for children under one year and has already become a classic of this event.
