The third edition of the Timanfaya Triathlon will be held on February 14 in Playa Blanca, an event that opens the triathlon season in Lanzarote, being a good test to assess how the preparation is being carried out for the rest of the year. The Timanfaya Triathlon is full of stories starring anonymous triathletes and those who train daily to continue improving their personal bests. Many of the participants are amateur triathletes, combining work and training in most cases, and demonstrating that participating in the Timanfaya Triathlon is within the reach of those people who are entering this magnificent sport. Miguel Alberdi, a hospitality entrepreneur, is one of those triathletes who combines his work with sports and who has participated in the Timanfaya Triathlon to prepare for the rest of the season.
Miguel Alberdi is a hospitality entrepreneur and in his business, the Sport Bar in Playa Blanca, you can breathe sport from all four sides. He participated in the first edition of the Timanfaya Triathlon and last year he contributed as a volunteer to the event, having to dedicate hours to his work in the afternoon. He currently belongs to the Triatlón Atleti club, formed by followers of Atlético de Madrid, and the colchonero club is another of his passions. He wears the colors of Atlético de Madrid in each of the sporting events in which he participates.
This amateur triathlete has to combine his work with sports, ensuring that he does it "by getting up very early" and explains that he gets up "very early because the work time is untouchable and if you have motivation you look for time even where you don't have it." "Being the owner of the business, the working time is always longer, things come up, small emergencies, things fail or you have to go shopping...and it takes a lot of time", argues Miguel Alberdi, who dedicates between ten and eleven hours a day to his work. As for training time, Alberdi dedicates "an hour and a half to one discipline a day, doubling once a week and extending the training to two and a half hours". A training that he repeats 5 to 6 times per week.
Miguel Alberdi positively values his participation in the Timanfaya Triathlon, recalling that "it had a good organization, it went very well and we enjoyed it". The triathlete explains that "the test helped me to prepare for other tests, mentally it was very good for me to get rid of the rust and psychologically it helped me". "The fact that it is the first triathlon of the year is fabulous because you are calibrating yourself for the rest of the tests that you are going to do" and he remembers that personally he did not have an objective in the Timanfaya Triathlon, being "a complement for the Ironman that was the challenge that I had set myself". Alberdi argues that his participation in the Timanfaya Triathlon was "as a volume of work and to add a small step to reach the rest of the tests".
He has recommendations for those who are hesitating at this time to participate in the Timanfaya Triathlon. "You have to make a small effort, and it is not easy, but as you are doing it and you are seeing results, you yourself see how you feel like it and when you realize you are on the starting line of the Timanfaya Triathlon".
