Magec Tías Lanzarote Contra la Violencia de Género achieved a victory of enormous merit this Saturday against GEIEG Pacisa (91-86), in a match that required two overtimes to be resolved and allowed the team led by Jesús García to rediscover positive feelings despite the demands of a tight schedule and very limited rotation.
The Lanzarote team faced the match aware of the need to secure a victory that would reinforce their competitive dynamic. However, the challenge was not minor: a short squad and a team consolidated in the upper part of the standings anticipated a complex scenario. Even so, from the initial jump, Magec Tías Lanzarote showed solidity, with a combinative style of play and well-executed defenses. The only aspect that generated difficulties was rebounding, where the Catalan team was more incisive, allowing them to stay in the game even when they were nine points behind.
As the minutes passed, the home team began to lose the advantage they had gained, while GEIEG Pacisa increased their pace in the second quarter, forcing the islanders into difficult situations that the Girona team knew how to punish. The visitors' comeback was consolidated with a lead that at one point exceeded ten points, while the accumulation of fouls began to affect several Catalan players, a factor that would ultimately prove decisive in the outcome
Magec Tías Lanzarote found themselves down by eleven points and caught in a cycle of failed attempts. Added to this was the knee injury of Carolina Mateo, who had to leave the game, further reducing Jesús García's rotation options. The Lanzarote team once again demonstrated their competitive spirit. Two consecutive three-pointers from Margarida Junqueira reactivated the team and the fans, bringing back the conviction that epic performances are still part of the red-and-black DNA.
The reaction led to a thrilling end to the game. With the score at 72-73 and only two-tenths of a second left, Yaiza García was fouled while shooting. She made the first free throw, and although she missed the second, it forced overtime, opening up a new scenario.
In the first overtime, the visitors began to lose players due to accumulated fouls. Magec Tías Lanzarote took a five-point lead, but the Catalans managed to restore equality in the final moments, sending the game into a second overtime. In this second added period, the home team managed their offensive options better and maintained their lead, despite the evident physical fatigue of players who were already nearing 50 minutes on the court. GEIEG Pacisa tried to reduce the deficit, but fatigue also took its toll on their ranks, ultimately sealing the home victory at 91-86With this result, Magec Tías Lanzarote Contra la Violencia de Género achieves its fifth victory of the season and moves into tenth place in the standings. The team will face its next commitment this Sunday at 13:00, when they host CB Isla Bonita from La Palma, currently in ninth place with one more win.
