Macaco and Maeña 9 take command of the César Manrique Trophy

The XV César Manrique Trophy for Cruisers kicked off this Thursday with the presentation of the regatta and the skippers' meeting held at the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife (RCNA), before the competition began today in the waters of Arrecife.

The first sporting day took place off El Reducto beach, with two races held under demanding wind conditions, with 20 knots from the northeast, which tested the 13 participating boats.

In the general classification, Macaco, owned by Lucio Pérez Aranaz, takes the lead with four points, after achieving a first and a second place. The boat from the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife leads by tie-breaker over Maeña 9, owned by Andrés Martín Monje Batista, which becomes one of the main protagonists of the day.

Maeña 9 competes in group 4, alongside boats of greater length, a circumstance that gives special value to its performance. The boat from Tenerife completed a perfect day, with two first places, and leads its division with only two points. In the absolute general classification, it is second, tied on points with Macaco.

Teguise Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, owned by Alejandro Morales Quintana, also shone, starring in a great first race. However, an over the start line (OCS) prevented it from turning that performance into a good result.

The boat from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife reacted in the second race with a victory, although the OCS in the first heat leaves it fourth in its group. Cachito, owned by Augusto Escolar, occupies third place in the general classification with seven points, while Sorcery, owned by Antonio L. Hernández Manchado, is fourth with 12. In group 4, Manitu, owned by Pedro J. Rodríguez, is second after Maeña 9, with four points.

The competition will continue tomorrow, Saturday, with the decisive day of the XV César Manrique Trophy, included in the calendar of the High-Level Canary Circuit. The regatta is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and Calero Marinas, with Marina Lanzarote as the host port, and combines sporting activity with a significant social aspect for the participating crews.

The Trophy is sponsored by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through its Tourism and Sports departments, the Arrecife City Council and the Arrecife City Council's Sports Department, and with the collaboration of Cicar, Balearia, and Hotel Miramar.
