The Lanzarote canoeing team returns home after participating in the second national competition of the 2022 season, which took place this past weekend in Ibiza.
Los Marlines competed against almost 500 paddlers from more than 30 national clubs. From the club's technical management, it was already warned that this II Spanish Cup was going to increase competitiveness since the teams from the Balearic Islands were joining, who were playing at home and have the possibility of having all their paddlers in the competition, and logically, for the Canarian team it is a logistical challenge to move their entire staff, material, diets, stay, etc.
But all these handicaps did not affect the Lanzarote paddlers, who were able to demonstrate in the water that they are at a good level of performance, obtaining a total of 35 medals: 12 golds, 12 silvers and 11 bronzes.
On Saturday's regatta day, the wind and waves did not appear. Both meteorological conditions are key for this type of canoeing, since in Kayak de Mar they look for conditions where the paddlers demonstrate their skill in the open sea. Therefore, the regattas were very close, but Los Marlines were not left behind and gave everything to achieve the following results in the individual boat competitions: Eloy Woelke second place in Cadet Men SS1, Daniel Robayna third place in Cadet Men SS1, Airam Pacheco second place in Youth Men SS1, Ines Hernández third place in Sub23 Women SS1, Gabriel Cabrera second place in Sub23 Men, Jonay Rodriguez first place in Veteran A Men and Pedro Lemes third place in Veteran A Men.
The Young Promises had to compete twice on the same day, in the morning in double boats and in the afternoon in individual, since bad weather was expected for Sunday and the organizing committee made that decision. The children of Los Marlines achieved the following podiums: Ariadne Giménez first place in Children A Women SS2 and first place in Children A Women SS1, Emma Arrocha first place in Children A SS2 and second place in Children A Women SS1, Pedro Martín second place in Children A Men SS2, Andor Devora second place in Children A Men SS2, Samuel Bocchetta third place in Children A Men SS2, Sebastián Agredo third place in Children A Men SS2, Fidel de León first place in Children B Men SS2 and Dairon García first place in Children B Men SS2.
Already on Sunday, the regatta field was the closest thing to the conditions that are sought in this modality. The wind and waves appeared, within normal parameters, which allowed the different starts to be developed with total safety. This favored Los Marlines who demonstrated their dominance in those seas with somewhat more movement.
On this last day, the paddlers had to compete in double boats, managing to enter among the first 3 places the following Marlines: Andrea Betancor third place in Cadet Mixed SS2, Pedro Rodríguez third place in Cadet Mixed SS2, Eloy Woelke first place in Cadet Men SS2, Daniel Robayna first place in Cadet Men SS2, Eduardo Fajardo third place in Cadet Men SS2, Alejandro Dorta third place in Cadet Men SS2, Airam Pacheco second place in Youth Men SS2, Eneko Labarga second place in Youth Men SS2, Inés Hernández second place in Sub23 Women SS2, Anabel Rodríguez second place in Sub23 Women SS2, Gabriel Cabrera first place in Sub23 Mixed SS2, Elba García first place in Sub23 Mixed SS2, Matías di Candia second place in Senior Men SS2, Ignacio Soler second place in Senior Men SS2, Anna Langner third place in Senior Mixed SS2, Saúl Rodríguez third place in Senior Mixed SS2, Pedro Lemes first place in Veteran B Men SS2 and Iago Nogueira first place in Veteran B Men SS2.
All these medals and the good results of the rest of the team gave them enough points to fight and place as runners-up of the II Spanish Cup of Sea Kayak and also runners-up of the II Spanish Cup of Young Promises of Sea Kayak.
As for the Leagues, Los Marlines, with the results obtained in Ibiza, continue to be first as a Club in the Absolute National League and in the National League of Young Promises.
In the Senior Men's League they also remain first, along with the leadership in the Cadet Men's League, in the Youth Men's League and in the Sub23 Women's League. In the Iberdrola League, the women of Los Marlines are in third place.
Now it's time for a break in the national competitions, but the Eurochallenge arrives on April 29 in La Vila Joyosa, an international event that scores in the World Ranking. And on May 7, the Lanzarote team will travel to Gran Canaria to participate in the I Canary Islands Cup.
