The Sports Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, D. Juan Francisco Monzón Rosales, will travel to Buenos Aires (Argentina) on October 8 to officially receive the baton that will designate the island as the venue for the ITFU Taekwon-Do World Championship 2027.

The event will take place within the framework of the ITFU Argentina 2025 World Championship, to be held from October 9 to 12 at the Malvinas Argentinas Covered Microstadium, with a capacity for 10,000 spectators. At this international meeting, Lanzarote will be presented to the global Taekwon-Do community as the future host of the most important event in this discipline.

The championship in Argentina will bring together competitors from all categories—from cadets to veterans—in the forms, sparring, power breaking, special techniques, and Adapted Taekwon-Do divisions, consolidating itself as a world-class meeting of excellence and sportsmanship.

Ceremony of Passing the Baton

During the championship's opening ceremony in Buenos Aires, the flags of Lanzarote, Arrecife, Tías, and Teguise will parade, along with other tourist and sports insignias from the island.

While traditional Canarian music plays and images of Lanzarote are projected on the main screen, the symbolic act of handing over the baton to the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo will take place, at which time Lanzarote will be officially proclaimed as the host of the ITFU Taekwon-Do World Championship 2027.

Lanzarote 2027: An Institutional Challenge Come True

Lanzarote's designation as the world headquarters is a response to a challenge promoted by the president of the Cabildo, D. Oswaldo Betancor, and the Minister of Sports, D. Juan Monzón, during the presentation of the medals obtained by the Tanaga Club in the European Championship.

On that occasion, both leaders proposed the challenge of the island progressively organizing a Championship of the Canary Islands, of Spain, of Europe, and, finally, of the World. After the success of the 2024 Canary Islands Championship, the commitment continues to advance with the confirmation of the 2027 ITFU World Championship.

Three venues for a global event

The championship will be held in the municipalities of Arrecife, Teguise, and Tías, which will host the different official competitions.

The new Arrecife Sports Palace, along with the sports facilities in Teguise and Tías, will be the main venues for an event that will bring together thousands of athletes, delegations, and visitors from around the world.

The ITFU Taekwon-Do World Championship Lanzarote 2027 will be possible thanks to the joint commitment of the Island Sports Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Department of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism (EPEL-CACT), the town councils of Arrecife, Teguise and Tías, together with their departments of Tourism and Sports, and collaborating companies and official sponsors, which will be announced soon.

Likewise, the organization is working on a parallel program of activities that will bring the spirit of the championship to the entire island, with events at the Lanzarote Sports City and in various public spaces, promoting citizen participation, sports tourism, and the island's international profile.

"This World Cup will not only be a top-level sporting event, but also a historic opportunity to show the world everything that Lanzarote has to offer," said the Minister of Sports, Juan Francisco Monzón Rosales.
