Lanzarote became the epicenter of national handball last weekend with the celebration of the Copa and Minicopa de España de Balonmano 2025, an event that brought together thousands of fans and "has reaffirmed the island's ability to host high-level sports competitions."

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the positive impact of this event on the island, “both at a sporting and tourist level.” “Lanzarote has once again demonstrated that it is a benchmark in the organization of major sporting events. The celebration of this Copa and Minicopa de España has not only provided a first-class spectacle, but has also boosted our local economy and given visibility to the island on the national sports scene,” said Betancort.

For his part, the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, highlighted “the great reception that the competition has had and the Cabildo's commitment to promoting sports.” “Seeing Lanzarote vibrate with handball has been a source of pride. From the Insular Sports Service we will continue to bet on bringing events of this magnitude, promoting sports in all its categories and promoting our island as an ideal destination for sports practice,” he said.

The event featured a vibrant final in which Barça was crowned champion of the Copa de España after defeating Bathco BM Torrelavega in a match played at the Tías Municipal Pavilion, while the Minicopa de España allowed the young talents of national handball to have their moment of prominence in the Titerroy Pavilion.

The awards ceremony was attended by various authorities, including the vice president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, the vice minister of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Sabroso, and the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, as well as representatives of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation and other institutions.

With the successful celebration of this event, Lanzarote "consolidates its position as a privileged destination to host major sporting competitions, reinforcing its commitment to sports tourism and the promotion of events that generate a positive impact on the island."
