Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen fell defeated this Saturday at the arrecifeño Municipal Pavilion of Titerroy with the visit of Balonmano Zuazo Femenino (19-20) in a match corresponding to the eighteenth day of the women's División de Honor Oro.

The "tiñoseras" thus see their streak cut short after two consecutive victories. Puerto del Carmen remains in the last position of the classification table, fourteenth, with seven points. Zuazo continues to occupy fourth place with twenty-seven points.

First part to forget about the lice-ridden. Very bad in both areas of the field. Zuazo distanced themselves from the start both on the scoreboard in Titerroy and in the level of play and commitment (4-10, min. 20). Far from patching up the situation, the black and golds were crying out for halftime to arrive (7-11).

After the break, something changed. Casanova knew how to touch the necessary chip, which had disappeared in combat in the first half. Little by little, the locals began to get going. Fifteen minutes into the second half, the game was in the balance (13-14), but the Basques pulled away again on the scoreboard (13-17, min. 50). A three-zero run by the Tiñoseras tied the game at seventeen with five minutes left to play. After a lot of effort, Puerto del Carmen was close to scoring, but neither luck nor some refereeing decisions went their way. A controversial ball hit the crossbar and the entire stands saw it hadn't gone in, one of the referees gave it as a valid goal for the visitors, provoking the anger of the stands. With a few seconds left, Casanova called a timeout to at least try to tie the match, but there was no luck and the points went to the Basque Country, breaking the positive streak of the aurinegras.

Two players, one from each side, became the top scorers of the match with five goals each. Beatriz Masseu for the tiñoseras and June Amilibia for the Basque team.

For the tiñosero coach, Jesús Casanova, it has been rowing, rowing, and rowing to drown next to the shore, “we are dragging the terrible first half we played with too many mistakes, soft in defense, turnovers, clear shots that we didn't score. We returned to those situations we had before Christmas and we are dragging that four-goal difference. The team showed grit in the second half. Negative side the first half, positive side trying to maintain that tension from the second half in the upcoming matches. We have to maintain tension in defense and, if we are capable of defending like this, we won't find many teams of this level in what's left. I think we are in a good position, in a good dynamic and now we need to confirm it in the matches. Now playing well is no longer enough, what we have to do is win, yes or yes. The team is in a good dynamic, we are playing well, we are overcoming those slumps we had before and that cost us heavy defeats, so I am optimistic for the future,” concluded the coach of Puerto del Carmen.

El Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will return to competition next Saturday, February 28, in Valencia. At 6:00 PM (peninsular time) they will visit the Pabellón La Canaleta in their visit to Grupo USA Handbol Mislata, a team that this week beat Carballal (25-27) and is tenth in the standings with eleven points and a record of three wins, five draws, and nine losses. The first direct confrontation with one of the teams at the bottom of the standings will be the first final for the tiñoseras.
