The island of Lanzarote becomes this weekend the great stage of Canarian motorsport with the celebration of the XIX RallySprint La Candelaria. The event marks the start of the Regional and Provincial Championship of Las Palmas of the specialty, as well as the Lanzarote Insular Asphalt Championship.
The municipalities of Tías and San Bartolomé host a test that will feature the participation of 25 teams that have passed the technical verifications and that promise an intense start to the season.
The official entry list for the event, organized by Escudería Lanzarote, is headed by Yeray Lemes and Aitor Cambeiro. The reigning champions from Lanzarote begin their title defense at the wheel of their competitive Citroën C3 Rally2, with which they have achieved numerous victories in recent years.
Among their main rivals are ‘Toñín’ Suárez and Kimberly González, who are repeating at the controls of the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Rallye 2010. Álvaro Caballero and Noé González are also starting as contenders for the podium, who will compete with the BMW M3 E46, a vehicle with which they have left very good feelings in their recent participations.
The fight for the top positions will also feature pairings such as Adrián Chávez–Cristian Pérez (Suzuki Swift R4LLY S Rally2-Kit), Yoday Betancort–Daniela Betancort (Peugeot 208 Rally4), Rayco Rodríguez–Christopher Rijo (Citroën DS3 R3T Max) and Julián Arrocha–M. Alejandro García (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX).
The departure ceremony, held on Friday afternoon-evening in the Tías football field area, brought together the 25 teams authorized to start and was attended by the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón.
Saturday's event will be reserved for the competition, with six runs over the fast stage that connects Tías and San Bartolomé. The action begins at 10:00 AM and will continue until approximately 4:00 PM, in an event that promises excitement from the first kilometer.
