The skater from the Extreme Center, an indoor skatepark in Playa Honda, is crowned champion of the 'World Rookie Tour', a world skateboarding championship that took place this weekend at the Mystic Sk8 Park Štvanice in Prague, Czech Republic, and brought together 22 competitors from 17 different nationalities.
Each competitor had two one-minute rounds, where the judges had to evaluate the quantity and variety of tricks, style and fluidity of each participant. Abbie Burns managed to qualify in first position in her group very solidly and with a score of 74.33, above the Frenchwomen Agathe Gillet (61.00) and Uma Schevenels (56.00).
The ten best classified advanced to the grand final and again Burns surpassed her strongest rivals: the Czech Laura Zackova, a local who had managed to enter the final phase after leading her group; and the German Florence Ulrich.
The women's podium of this 'World Rookie Tour' was completed in that same order where the conejera achieved a spectacular score of 74.33, eight points above Zackova (66.33), who would take the silver followed by Ulrich's bronze (63.00). In recent years Abbie has already achieved great achievements: first place in the 'Autonomous Championship' organized by the Canary Islands Skating Federation; within the 'National Circuit', she was fourth in the first event held in Jerez, third in the second day that hosted Lanzarote and fourth in the O Marisquiño World Cup in Vigo.
The skater Abbie Burns, only 14 years old, began her sports career at the age of seven, at the 'Skate del Extreme Center' school and belongs to the 'Club Skateros' of San Bartolomé. Her coach Diego Rosende, who was lucky enough to compete on the same tracks in Prague 23 years ago, says: “It fills us with pride, as a team, to know that the effort and hard work is paying off. We have put Lanzarote on the world map of Skateboarding.”
