The International Taekwondo Federation ITFU has officially announced that Lanzarote will host the 2027 World Championship, one of the most important events on the international martial arts calendar.

The Councillor for Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, received the baton on behalf of the island during the closing ceremony of the last World Championship held in Mar del Plata (Argentina), where more than 1,700 athletes from 40 countries gathered.

"It is an honor that the ITFU has placed its trust in Lanzarote to host its next world championship event. This not only consolidates our island as an international sports benchmark, but also reinforces Lanzarote's projection as a top-level sports tourism destination," said Monzón.

The counselor also highlighted the positive impact that this event will have "on the local economy and the sports sector." "We are facing a unique opportunity to continue demonstrating that Lanzarote is synonymous with sports, hospitality, and organization. We are already starting to work with the federations and the island's sports fabric to ensure that this championship is a resounding success."

The 2027 ITFU Taekwondo World Championship will bring together the best international athletes of this discipline in Lanzarote, once again turning the island into a meeting point between sport, culture, and sustainability.
