The Be Brave & Run Solidarity Race held last Sunday in the tourist town of Playa Blanca broke its historical collection record, raising 14,060 euros for the social mission of the Creciendo Association, thanks to the registration of nearly 300 athletes of all ages and the contributions of companies and entities that joined this sporting, family and festive end-of-year event where joy and willingness to help come together.

In the competitive section, the young southerner Yerove Rodríguez Machín, who won in 2023, was once again the fastest in the five kilometers along the Playa Blanca promenade with a time of 15:40 minutes, lowering his time from last year by 51 seconds for the same distance, round trip, between Playa Dorada and Las Coloradas.

Despite his young age, 18 years old, Yerove has a distinguished career in athletics, achieving this year in Valencia the Spanish record for the U20 half marathon (1:06:14 h). His immediate challenge is to surpass the best national time for the 10K in January, and it is no coincidence that he is at the High Performance Sports Center in Murcia, which houses athletes who train with the highest quality standards, an activity that Yerove combines with his studies in physical activity and sports science.

Yerove Rodríguez Machín is on vacation these days and, surrounded by his family, enjoyed himself like one of the others in the Playa Blanca Solidarity Race. The public cheered on the little ones from ten in the morning until noon when it was time for the 5 km race with the participation of young people and adults, on a fast track with some slopes, but also where more experienced women and men work hard to compete and have fun.

The Solidarity Race had three starts by age groups and distances adapted to these groups: first the children under 5 years old who ran 200 meters; then boys and girls from 5 to 9 years old who completed 500 meters; children, from 10 to 13 years old, who ran 2.2 km; and finally the main category of 5 km.

The awards ceremony was presided over by Daniel Medina, Councilor for Tourism and Youth and Equality of Yaiza, Marci Acuña, Councilor for Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Luis Folgar, resident director of the Hotel Princesa Yaiza. The Solidarity Race is organized by the Yaiza City Council and the Hotel Princesa Yaiza with the collaboration of the First Island Corporation.
