Kenpo practitioners train hard and enthusiastically in Playa Blanca to experience their first competitive experiences outside of Lanzarote with the Kenpo Karate Lanzarote academy, tutored by regional coach Wellington Castro. Kenpo is a martial arts sport that "continues to grow with the support of the Yaiza City Council through the municipal Sports Schools program," the Council says.
The young people are preparing to compete on February 18 in Fuerteventura with the aim of perfecting their technique and qualifying for the Spanish Cup scheduled in the city of Guadalajara, these are the first two events of the 2023 calendar that promises success for the very young southern athletes.
“I want to publicly congratulate the boys, girls and young people for their dedication to Kenpo and their perseverance to improve and overcome themselves every day, but I also give my most sincere congratulations to the families for promoting among our youngest neighbors healthy activities that help complement school education.”
Regarding the imminent challenges, Wellington Castro notes that “the grades of the boys and girls range from white belt to brown, and after the Fuerteventura competition they could qualify for the Kenpo Spanish Cup. We are eager and excited.”
The Sports Councilor of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, who was at the training this Friday, highlights “the great training work carried out by Willington Castro, Erika Castro and Ermitas de la Cruz and their attention to the minors week after week that makes boys and girls love Kenpo, develop their skills educated in values and can compete. Our commitment is to maintain support for sports, always with conviction and room for improvement.”
