The Germans Justus Nieschlag and Anne Haug have starred in this year's Club La Santa IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote. Their victories, of great merit due to the level of the participants and the large number of entries, were well deserved due to the high pace they set from the start.

The eleventh edition of the Club La Santa IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote started at 7:00 a.m. from Puerto Marina Rubicón. As a novelty this year, GPS buoys have been used in the swimming segment, which are more sustainable and respectful with the environment, since they are not anchored to the seabed and do not damage the ecosystem. From the first moment, the German Justus Nieschlag positioned himself as the fastest swimmer in covering the 1.9 kilometers and took command of the race, with his compatriot Rico Bogen in second place. On the women's side, the British Kate Curran was in charge and India Lee and Anne Haug tried to reach her pace.

In the cycling segment there were great changes among the first places in the race. Nieschlag accelerated progressively without managing to get away from his rivals. The Dane Thor Bendix Madsen improved compared to the first segment and placed second, despite being sixteenth out of the water. For her part, Anne Haug reached first place and left the rest of the competitors behind. Neither India Lee nor Elisabetta Curridori were able to shorten the distances and focused on ensuring their presence on the final podium.

Before reaching the finish line of this Club La Santa IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote, the triathletes faced 21.1 kilometers of running in Playa Blanca. In this last segment, Nieschlag and Haug certified their victory by taking advantage of the advantage they had achieved on the bicycle. Nieschlag reached the end with a 15-second advantage over the Frenchman Mathis Margirier; Thor Bendix Mandsen completed the men's podium of the event. In the women's event, India Lee and Elisabetta Curridori did not exchange their positions and maintained second and third place behind champion Anne Haug.

Among the most outstanding Spanish triathletes, Anna Noguera finished fifth thanks to a spectacular running segment and Jordi Montraveta finished twelfth. "The objective was to come and do a test for the IRONMAN Lanzarote (...), I hope to see you all in May and improve last year's position," Montraveta declared at the finish line.

Once again, the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Tourism of Lanzarote, European Sports Destination and the Yaiza City Council has been fundamental for the event to function logistically and organizationally. The event, a national and international benchmark, expands the name of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands in the first-class sports field.
