José Tavío concluded his participation in the FSPA Master Surf League 2026 last Saturday, September 26, with a victory in the +50 category and a second place in +45 at the Tablas Championship, held at San Lorenzo beach, in Gijón. The fourth and final event of the circuit capped off a season of great consistency for the athlete from the JSurf Arrieta Club, from Haría.
The day was marked by complicated sea conditions. Low tide and closing waves made the initial heats difficult and forced a suspension of the competition for approximately two hours. In that scenario, Tavío was eliminated from the +40 final after competing in the semifinals.
With the rising tide and improved conditions, the surfer faced the remaining two finals. In +45, he secured second place, and in the +50 final, he achieved victory, which allowed him to secure first place in the overall standings for this category.
The balance of the four events reflects his consistency: in +50, he achieved two victories and two second places; in +45, one victory and three second places. In +40, he had reached third place in the previous three events.
Tavío concludes the League as champion of +50, runner-up of +45, and fourth classified in +40.
The JSurf Arrieta Club particularly values the effort and continuity required to compete throughout the season, carrying the names of Haría and Lanzarote to the different events of the circuit.
The Club thanks the Surf Federation of the Principality of Asturias, the organization of the Tablas Championship, and all the people who made the competition possible. Likewise, it recognizes the support of the Haría City Council for sports and the accompaniment of Ohana Surfboards with sports equipment.
